About Marc

Marc Berley is a writer, editor, and musician. His fiction, poetry, and nonfiction have appeared in The Iowa Review, Threepenny Review, LitHub, and newspapers nationwide. He has appeared on BBC and PBS and been covered by
Reuters, Washington Post, USA Today, and ABC’s The View. His alt-rock album Kick the Machine charted on college radio and played on the largest radio station in Europe. He holds a BA, MA, and PhD in English and comparative literature from Columbia, where he was President’s Fellow and editor of The Columbia Review. He was a professor of Shakespeare and Renaissance literature at Rutgers and Barnard/Columbia. The author of After the Heavenly Tune and editor of Reading the Renaissance, he is founding editor of the award-winning literary magazine LitMag. His groundbreaking book Shakespeare on Sex: How Will’s Love Life Shaped the Plays and Liberated the World (Skyhorse/ Simon & Schuster) will be published on May 19, 2026. Shakespeare on Sex is the first book in a trilogy of books on Shakespeare he recently completed, in addition to a novel. He is represented by Mark Gottlieb of Trident Media Group. He lives in New York. He will spend time in Nashville next year to record a new album.
